SASO Energy Efficiency label for Tires offers helpful information for customers to purchase tires enabling them to check the tires characteristics. 1. Fuel Efficiency

Fuel efficiency is measured by the rolling resistance (RR) of tires.

Rolling resistance is the resistance that occurs when a round object such as a ball or tire rolls on a flat surface in a steady velocity straight-line motion. It is caused mainly by the deformation of the object, the deformation of the surface, or both.

Additional contributing factors include wheel radius, forward speed, surface adhesion, and relative micro-sliding between the surfaces of contact. It depends very much on the material of the wheel or tire and the sort of ground.

2. Wet Grip

Wet grip indicates the braking performance of tires on wet road surfaces and is related to the safety performance of vehicles. Tires with low rolling resistance have high fuel efficiency, but can have safety problems. This is because tires with low rolling resistance have low adherence to roads when the roads are wet.

Requirements to Obtain the Energy Efficiency Label for Tires

SASO shall grant the license to use the card for the establishment when the following conditions are fulfilled:

Local establishments shall be officially registered in the Ministry of Commerce and authorized to carry out such activities in accordance with Saudi Arabian legislation.
The product shall be in conformity with the relevant Gulf and Saudi technical regulations.
The establishment shall provide SASO with any data it requests for the product and facilitate the task of obtaining a representative sample of the model when necessary, to verify the extent of compliance with the relevant standards, at its expense.
The establishment shall acknowledge the validity of all the data it provides to SASO and take responsibility of such acknowledgement.
The use of the card shall be limited to the products and models described in the license.

Steps to Apply for the Energy Efficiency Label for Tires

Establishments wishing to obtain a license to use the card and shall provide the below:

A valid Gulf certificate of conformity for each model of products to be licensed and registered. A test reports indicating that the tires comply with Saudi technical regulations and the technical regulation
for the card by an accredited laboratory, with a valid copy of the certificate of accreditation.

The Energy Efficiency Label for Tires Initial Costs

Study of an application for registration of a tire model and review the attached documents (2,000 SAR).
Review the issuance of the energy efficiency card for a tire model (500 SAR).
License renewal of the energy efficiency card for a tire model (500 SAR).

SASO has the right to withdraw samples from random consignments of imported or locally manufactured products in order to test such samples in a certified laboratory. The establishment shall bear the costs of sampling and testing.

Violations and Penalties

Any of the following practices is considered a violation to the provisions of this regulation:

- Use of the card on any of the products or models without obtaining a license from SASO.
- Continuance of using the card on any product or model after the license is annulled or expired.
- Continuance of publishing or advertising in any of the media regarding the use of the card for products for which a decision has been issued to revoke the license.
- Removal, tampering, or concealment of the label on products during the sale of the product.
- Insertion of incorrect data into the portal or in the card.

In case of a violation to the provisions of this regulation, the establishment shall be subject to the penalties stipulated in the relevant systems/regulations issued by the Ministry of Commerce.
