G-Mark

G-Mark

The Saudi Arabian Standards Organization (SASO) is now enforcing the requirement of G-Marking for Low Voltage (LV) Electrical Products and Toys.

Adopting the right approach will ensure you avoid costly fines, delayed shipments, or risk of company blacklisting at KSA Customs Ports and Borders.

The G-Mark certificate is needed in order to apply for the registration in SABER platform since the 1st April 2019.
GCTS

G-Mark Certification

Gulf Conformity Mark, also called as G-Mark is an affirmation mark used to show items that fit in with every specialized guideline of the Gulf Cooperation Council. It implies that the G-stamped items meet all necessities of the comparing specialized guidelines and have passed all similarity evaluation strategies. The imprint was presented in 2009.

G-Mark is done for the Products Imported or Sold in Gulf Member States. Gulf Mark (G Mark) Certification is a compulsory requirement for Low Voltage Electrical products (LVE) and children’s toys to be exported to the Gulf Coordinating Council (GCC) Nations under the Gulf Standardization Organization (GSO).

Scope of Certification for G Mark:

01:

Low Voltage Equipment (LVE)

02:

Children Toys

G-Mark for Low Voltage Equipment

G Mark is a requirement for Low Voltage Electrical Equipment and Appliances being sold into member countries of the Gulf Standardization Organization (GSO) as defined within the Low Voltage Technical Regulation, BD142004-01.

The Technical Regulation for Low voltage Electrical Equipment and Appliances (BD-142004-01) establishes the mandatory requirements for safety and electromagnetic compatibility for this type of equipment and appliances before being marketed in Gulf countries. Electrical equipment means all devices, electrical/electronic apparatuses and accessories containing electrical and/or electronic components designed to be used with low voltage.

The Gulf Mark (G Mark) aims to establish a single market, allowing the free movement of these products in the member countries of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC). The countries included in the scheme are: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.

SABERSAUDI will assist you with evaluating technical requirements and preparation of documentation and provide the risk analysis for products such as household utilities, plugs, socket outlets, chargers and other similar products.

Low Electrical Appliances are categorized in the two categories:

     ► List 1 Regulated Products

Manufacturers of List 1 products must have a system in place—typically a factory quality control system—in order to ensure products are being manufactured and assembled in a controlled manner. This includes production line testing to confirm the product quality and integrity so as to maintain conformity within the design intent.

Once all these elements have been completed the manufacturer can affix the proper G Marking on the product and draw up a written Declaration of Conformity.

     ► List 2 Regulated Products

Manufacturers must choose a single Notified Body (NB) entity, to examine the technical design of a product and verify that it meets the requirements of the applicable Gulf Technical Regulations. This will help the issuance of an evaluation report with a Gulf Type Examination Certificate.

The Notified Body must also ensure the manufacturing has a production quality system implemented in order to confirm that the product is being manufactured in accordance to the technical specifications.

The product manufacturer still must create a technical construction file for each model of product, and this documentation must include a risk analysis / assessment report and test reports, among the other additional documentation requirements noted for List 1 products, but with the inclusion of the Notified Body’s issued evaluation report with Type Examination Certificate.

Product categories within List 2 are primarily in the area of IEC 60335 (Home Appliances), such as:

G-Mark for Toys

Since January 2014, toys entering the GCC market have been required to comply with the GCC Technical Regulation on Children’s Toys (BD-131704-01). Compliant toys are required to display the GCC conformity quality mark, the G-Mark. This applies to all toys intended for use in play by children under 14 years of age.

Children’s toys must accomplish all specific safety requirements listed under the technical regulation related to physical, chemical, mechanical, flammability, hygiene, electrical and radioactive properties. Gulf Toys Technical Regulation (GTTR) has been regularly obligatory in all GCC Member States (The State of the United Arab Emirates, The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, The Kingdom of Bahrain, The Sultanate of Oman, The State of Kuwait, The State of Qatar and Yemen).

This marking signifies that the Toys conform to at least the essential requirements for health, safety and the environment.

All toys that are covered by the scope of EN 71 and EC directive 88/378/EC (as well as IEC 62115 for electrical toys) are included in the scope of the GTTR.

The regulation which has been implemented is almost identical to the European Toys Directive 88/378/EC which includes Module A and Module B+C, with additional Gulf deviations. It may be noted here that module B+C which is an option for toy manufacturers for application of the above ‘G’ mark will be under the supervision of a Notified Body (NB).

Partner with SABERSAUDI to bring safe and compliant toys to the GCC countries. We have Notified Bodies and laboratories approved by the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) to test and certify toys against the legislative requirements for qualification of the G-Mark.

Our experts can help you to carry the necessary sampling, testing and certification efficiently and professionally.

FAQs:

It is a harmonized compliance scheme that facilitates the movement of low voltage equipment and devices to the GCC member countries by eliminating technical barriers and unifying customs requirements. This establishes a common market scheme that guarantees quality and safety for consumers.

GSO Technical Regulations require suppliers of certain goods to go through checks on their products to see if they are “fit” for the Gulf countries’ common market, meaning they are safe to use and of good quality.

These check procedures make up the “Conformity Assessment” and require the manufacturer to involve independent third-party organizations to determine if their products meet the Gulf standards.

  1. International recognition of the product conformity
  2. Fulfilling a mandatory requirement for distributing the product in GCC market.

The Notified Body must also ensure the manufacturing has a production quality system implemented in order to confirm that the product is being manufactured in accordance to the technical specifications.

No, the GSO database currently only generates the tracking symbol to be used by the NBs on their certificates. Therefore at this moment manufacturers have to design the GCTS according to the rules and dimensional requirements in the guideline.

SABERSAUDI can support manufacturers with preparation of compliant artwork designs of the regulatory markings required by legislation.

The QR code is contained in the tracking symbol on the certificate which can be obtained from the Notified Body.

The GCC Conformity Marking (or in short: “G-mark”) can be downloaded as high-resolution image from the GSO website in the section “Home » Activities » Conformity » Regulatory System » GC Marking”.
